The Beauty of a Patina

The beauty of leather is the fact that it can be altered, not only in color (through dye) but also in depth (through shine). Color (aka dye) and polish can transform a shoe beyond most people's imaginations. A shoe that would otherwise look like a boring and dull model can ultimately be made to look like the greatest thing ever with a bit of creativity through the imagination of a brilliant patina artist. Such creativity is frequently carried out by Alexander Nuralaeff of Dandy Shoe Care, as shown here. While I have only had the pleasure of altering a shoe's look by one solo patina artist (Paulus Bolten), it is one day my intention to use them all to see magic behind their abilities. In pictures they are all brilliant, but I would love to see how that beauty translates into real life form. I know that they would all be lovely and amazing, but I would still love the see them in the flesh and compare them all.....one day soon. Anyway, a beautiful shoe presented, one that I would be more than happy to own and wear!!

I hope that you all have a lovely weekend and I will see you all back on Monday!

best

  1. Agreed. . . They are gorgeous. I recently had a pair of Allen Edmonds reconditioned at their factory, which came back with a similar patina though, admittedly, not quite as stunning as the example you present here.
